A letter from the picture desk

A retained copy from the correspondence file.

Sarah, thank you for keeping the slips. We have two gentlemen called David in the photograph and a caption which has attempted to solve the problem by calling both of them Dennis.

Please send the docket of the Thursday visitor. Our picture-desk corrections use the same visitor reference, even where the names have changed. A document number survives a conversation rather better than a name.

For your own notes: begin with the evidence you have, rather than the person you expect it to describe. I say this as somebody whose job is correcting captions.

Notebook question: Which visitor docket belongs to the man with the green case?
